The Komunarskyi district occupies the area of 61 sq. km. It consists of two micro districts — Kosmichnyi and Pivdennyi, as well as several thousands of private buildings. Here is Zaporizhzhia-1, the central railway station, and the central bus station.

On the territory the Komunarskyi district, there are basic enterprises of the city, supermarkets, and hypermarkets, car dealerships, restaurants, etc.

The Komunarskyi district is one of the cleanest parts of the city in terms of ecology, due to the large area of green spaces. In the district, there are two parks, nine public gardens, two green areas.

Zaporizhzhia Children's Railway is a center for studying and recreating children with a petting zoo, a winter garden, a terrarium, an aquarium and camps, and, of course, with its own track 8.6 km long. This is the longest and one of the best children's railways in Ukraine. On the banks of the Dnieper river, there are recreation bases and hotels, tennis courts and a base of wakeboarding.
