Shevchenkivskyi

The Shevchenkivskyi district is the largest area of Zaporizhzhia in terms of the area and population. It was founded in 1962 by separation from the Zhovtnevyi district (now — the Oleksandrivskyi district) and named after the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. The district is considered to be mostly bedroom.

The total area of the Shevchenkivskyi district is 98 sq. km, which is approximately equal to one-third of the city's area.

The Shevchenkivskyi district has a developed infrastructure. On its territory, there are strategic enterprises for the economy of the city: Motor Sich JSC, Zaporizhzhia Machine-Building Design Bureau Progress State Enterprise named after Academician O. H. Ivchenko, Zaporizhzhia Abrasive Plant  PJSC and others. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, there is an international airport "Zaporizhzhia".

As part of the district, there are six libraries and two palaces of culture, three recreation parks, and ten public gardens. The favorite leisure center for the residents is the out-of-school educational institution Zaporizhzhia City Children's Botanical Garden, which offers excursions and children's camps. This is the only children's botanical garden in Ukraine. The Museum of Technology Boguslaev, St. Andrew's Cathedral should be mentioned among the sights of the district as well.
